While the pandemic has been challenging, it has given us the opportunity to try new ways of doing things and to learn from these new experiences.
One of the biggest changes we have seen during the pandemic has been in regards to the animal we look after on site. With fewer people on site the animals have been calmer and happier, particularly in regards to the dogs. Additionally with all visits being booked in and planned in advance, we have been able to rehome animals in a more organised way, providing a better experience for the adopters and the animals.
Going forward all applications for adoption will need to be carried out via the website, and visits to the animal home will be by appointment only. In the future we hope to organise open days for people to come and visit the animal home, learn about our work and meet some animals.
Weather permitting all meet and greets will continue to take place outside, or in our new meet and greet room.
When in the building or at distances closer than 2 metres we will be asking all visitors to wear a mask and where possible to wear a mask when coming to the door.
While the number of staff in the home remains low we will not be turning our phone system back on. You can still contact the home via email - reception@rspca-yorkhome.org.uk and we will continue to update our website with answers to the most commonly asked questions.
As aways to report animal abuse please contact the national RSPCA call centre on 0300 1234 999
Our shops have re-opened fully and have been operating well since the end of Lockdown 3. We would like to thank all of our customers for wearing a mask when they are in store and following all of the social distancing guidelines.
In order to continue to look after the safety of our staff, volunteers and customers we will be keeping our social distancing guidelines in place and asking all customers to continue to wear masks when in store. Our shops are small and we will continue to restrict numbers of customers to ensure everyone has enough space to shop safety and comfortably.
Donations of items for the shops can be taken directly to the shops. As always we are looking for good quality items and can take everything from Books to Clothes, DVD's to TV's. If you have larger items or a large number of donations please contact the shop beforehand to let them know.
As things return to normal we hope to restart our in person fundraising work. We have a number of things planned, but will only ever engage in activity when we are sure it is safe for our staff, volunteers and supporters. In the meantime we will also be carrying out various online fundraising activities so please continue to support this when you can.
For information about our upcoming fundraising activity you can sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of this page, or follow our various social media channels.
We will not be holding a Summer Fair at the animal home this year as we feel it cannot be managed safely. We will continue to assess the situation and hope to welcome people back to the animal home for our Christmas Fair.
We have continued to accept donations throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so. The ongoing generosity of our supporters has made a huge difference to life at the home and without your donations we simply wouldn't be able to operate.
We cannot accept Duvets or Pillows and ask that anything donated is in clean and in good condition. We are also not currently accepting dog crates as we currently have more than we can use. We end up spending a lot of money on disposing of items we cannot use or are in poor condition.
We are currently not accepting any new volunteers. While the risk of catching and spreading the coronavirus is high we are continuing to limit the number of staff and volunteers at the animal home at any time. We will be prioritising bringing back existing volunteers when the situation permits and only when this can be done safely.
If you are interested in volunteering, please keep checking the website as we will be advertising new volunteer opportunities when they become available.

From donations to volunteering, we need help to care for the animals that are brought to us, for so many different reasons.
