At Home Collections

Posted July 2020

As the country moves out of lockdown and our charity shops begin to re-open we will be restarting our home collection service for donations. We need to make sure we're taking every possible step to ensure that the safety of our staff, volunteers and customers is maintained.
For the foreseeable future we will be operating our at home collection service under the following guidelines.

What precautions are your delivery drivers taking to ensure I don’t get Coronavirus?

Our drivers are following all Government advice. As such, your driver will call you ahead of arriving at your property to double-check if you’re isolating or not.

We ask that donations are placed outside of the property to minimise the level of contact between our driver and members of the public. If your donations cannot be placed outside for example due to poor weather we ask you to wait in another room whilst they collect your donation. Our drivers will be using hand sanitiser before and after every collection and will be wearing a mask when making collections.

We’re taking a sensible approach to the evolving situation with Coronavirus by following all Government advice to make sure we can continue to serve our customers and protect our people.

The Collection Process

  • Customers wishing to have a donation collected will contact their nearest RSPCA store to arrange for a collection.
  • The shop staff will ask a number of questions at this time to ensure all members of the household are free of Covid-19 symptoms and it is safe to carry out a collection.
  • The customer will be given a delivery day and collection window.
  • Prior to the collection our van driver will call the customer to notify them of expected arrival time and to check that the home is still symptom free
  • All donated items are to be left outside of the property so they can be collected without entering the property. This helps to reduce the risk of spreading the virus to others.
  • In the event of poor weather, where it is not possible to leave donations outside, we ask that customers distance themselves from the driver by waiting in another room while they carry out the collection.

Covid-19 Questionnaire for Donation Collection

The following list of questions will be asked to potential donors when they call to arrange an at home collection time.

  1. Do you or anyone in your household have any of the following symptoms: fever and persistent cough?
  2. Have you been to any other countries, parts of the UK or met anyone outside your household without maintaining social distancing measures in the last 14 days?
  3. Have you or do you think that you have been in contact with anyone who may have or has confirmed Coronavirus?
  4. Are you or is anyone in your household self isolating or shielding as instructed by a health professional?

If you answer yes to any of the above, then unfortunately we are unable to arrange a collection at this time.
