Coronavirus - Update

Posted March 2020

We're continuing to monitor the situation and guidance regarding the coronavirus epidemic. At this time we need to prioritise the wellbeing of our staff and volunteers to ensure we can maintain the required levels of animal care over the next few months. To this end we're making some further changes to our services.

  • Home visits - Effective immediately we will be putting all in-person home visits on hold. We will be trying to carry out home visits online through video conferencing and phone calls.
  • Rehoming and Adoptions - Rehoming activity is continuing during this period, we have put steps in place to minimise the risk to staff and public during this process. If you're interested in one of our animals please fill in a perfect match form online.
  • Donations - We will no longer be accepting duvets at the animal home. We will continue to accept donations of towels, sheets, blanks and animal foods at the home, but please leave these in the donation box outside the home.
  • Appointment Only - The home is continuing to operate on an appointment only basis. If you have any of the coronavirus symptoms please do not come to the home.
  • Wednesday Clinic on Hold - We have taken the decision to put our Wednesday welfare clinic on hold.
  • Fundraising Activity - Unfortunately most of the fundraising activity we had planned for the next few months has been impacted by the outbreak, with most of the activities being cancelled or postponed. We have had to cancel our Big Spring Clean.
  • Easter Fair - We have also taken the very difficult decision to cancel our Easter Fair. Many of the volunteers that run this event fall into the at risk category and to go ahead with the event would not be sensible. This event is one of our main fundraising activities raising around £3000 each year. Like many charities the coronavirus is going to have a financial impact on the home, if you can spare anything to help us through the coming period it would be greatly appreciated: https://www.rspca-yorkhome.org.uk/help/helping-us/donate
  • We are continuing to assess what is happening with our shops, for the time being all our shops are open and we would welcome anyone who wishes to purchase things. We'll be following government guidance and assessing this position as time goes on.

The RSPCA have produced this guidance for anyone who is ill or needs to self isolate - https://www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/latest/blogs/details/-/articleName/how-to-care-for-your-pets-if-you-re-ill-or-have-to-self-isolate-due-to-coronavirus

Thanks for your support and understanding during this period.

We hope you and your families are all staying safe and well.
