Volunteers are the backbone of this charity.

RSPCA York, Harrogate and District Branch cannot function without the dedicated help of our volunteers who support our branch in a variety of ways and we are eternally grateful for all the support we are given.

Dog Walking Volunteers:-

We are very sorry but we currently have no vacancies for casual dog walkers. 

CURRENT VOLUNTEER ROLES AVAILABLE

TRUSTEE RECRUITMENT- TREASURER NEEDED

Due to the recent merger of the "York and District” and "Harrogate and District” branches, the new "York, Harrogate and District” is currently seeking new trustees to serve on its board, and help support delivery of its ambitious strategic plan.

We are looking for professionals from any walk of life who share the values of the RSPCA, and would like to get involved with the charity. We would especially like to hear from individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Finance

Marketing (including digital marketing), communications, IT

Income generation (including fundraising, sponsorship, bid-writing, retail).

We seek a minimum commitment of 3-5 hours per month, but if you can spare more time than this, there are also opportunities to work on our sub-committees, volunteer at York Animal Home or at one of our retail outlets, or within our outreach or fundraising programmes. Ideally, we are looking for individuals who expect to be able to serve on our board for a minimum of two years.

Volunteer Fosterers

Location: Home based

Key Activities:

  • Working from home
  • Caring for animals (especially larger breed dogs)
  • Socialising and helping prepare for rehoming
  • Exercising animals within given socialising plan
  • Helping with behavioural development and rehabilitation

Experience:

  • Experience with larger dogs
  • Care and socialisation of animals
  • Understanding of different breed characteristics
  • Ability to empathise with animal history
  • Organised, good routine skills

Time and duration:
This role is an ongoing role, currently we are looking for foster homes for larger breeds.

Volunteer Retail Assistants Required 

Location:  RSPCA Charity Shops - Harrogate, Acomb, York, Selby
Role:        Assist in the daily activities of our shops 

Key Activities
Sorting & preparing incoming stock
Dressing shop window & stocking the shop floor
Assisting and serving Customers, using Cybertill (training given)

Experience
Experience in Retail or Charity Shops preferable
Confident with Cybertills and with Computers
Excellent Customer Service skills
Good organisational and team working skills required, and ability to work on own initiative

Time & Duration:
This role is an ongoing role. All shops except Harrogate (closed Sunday) are open 7 days per week 9am-4.30pm and are looking for a number of Volunteers to fill those hours.

Volunteer General Duties and Cleaning

Location: RSPCA York Animal Home 
Role:       This role is to support our General Duties Housekeeper

Key Activities
Assisting the General Duties Housekeeper
Cleaning, sanitising and keeping tidy the Reception Building (Including toilets, Meeting areas, Staff room and Clinic) 
Upkeep of outdoors space, watering and maintaining gardens, sweeping up
Small DIY tasks
Keeping Stores maintained and tidy; sorting donations

Experience:
Experience in cleaning, grounds upkeep, DIY to a high standard
Confident around animals, happy to help with small animal care in busy periods
Good organisational and team working skills required, and ability to work on own initiative

Time & Duration: This role is an ongoing role. For a few hours 5-7 days a week.

Events Assistants

Throughout the year we run a variety of events which help raise funds for the Animal Home, some examples are as follows:

Bike Ride, Running events, Supermarket bag packs, Easter, Summer and Christmas Fairs, Race events, Coffee mornings, Galas, Stalls, Street Collections, Road shows.

These events are run in a variety of areas in our District such as York, Harrogate, Selby, Ripon and Wetherby.

We are looking for volunteers to help with planning, organising and helping at these events.  If you can spare an hour, half or full day please contact cath@rspca-yorkhome.org.uk for further information.

Store and Street Collectors

This activity is a vital source of funds in support of the work at the York Animal Home. It only requires your time if you are available on the collections days, normally about two hours a shift. No experience necessary.

Branch Handy Persons

These roles are vital to support the work at the York Animal Home and our shops. We are already lucky enough to have a volunteer electrician but we are still looking for other volunteer trades or people who have an aptitude for minor building maintenance and repair. It only requires the time you can spare but there are small jobs to do every day of the week. You will need to be signed up as a RSPCA York, Harrogate & District volunteer before starting.

All regular Volunteers need to complete the application process which includes attending an induction and Health and Safety training.
